Step 1: Tidy up your workspace. 

Clear out off a clean, flat work surface that is larger than your un–assembled box sheet. This prevents any damage to the box or its creases.  

Ensure the surface is free from clutter, ensuring,  a distraction-free and organized environment. 

Step 2: Crease the scores. 

Look for the pre-fold lines (scores) on the interior side of the unassembled box sheet. Fold each score towards the interior to create well-defined creases. 

Pay extra attention to the two scores on the sidewall that are close to each other. Fold each crease separately to ensure the sidewall fits properly. 

Step 3: Fold the front and back flaps. 

Fold the front and back flaps forward while keeping the tuck flaps on the sides as much as possible.  

Gently brace the back flap in place to ensure stability as you proceed to the next step. 

Step 4: Bring up the side walls. 

Fold the left and right-side flaps over the tuck flaps to bring up the side walls. 

Simultaneously snap the side walls into place, ensuring symmetry and evenness. This results in a snug fit and secure structure. 

Check that the tops of the side walls are flat and not slanted or peaked. 

Step 5: Lock the box. 

Now that your box structure is formed, place adds your contents inside the box. 

Close the lid and slide the locking tabs into their designated slots in the sidewall. Now you have a sturdy and locked mailer box! 

A Few Tips for Smoother Mailer Box Assembly

• Opt for a custom mailer box tailored to your product’s size or dimensions if possible. This can streamline the assembly process. 
• If your mailer box has instructions, follow them carefully to avoid mistakes. 
• A box cutter can expedite the cutting and folding and save you time and effort. 

Common Mistakes When Assembling a Mailer Box

• Failure to fold along the pre-fold lines can lead to an improperly assembled box. 
• While mailer boxes may not require glue, securing flaps with tape is crucial to prevent accidental openings during transit. 
• Assembling on a cluttered or uneven surface can result in errors and damage to the box.

Starting a Project

Step 1: Select Product Options

You can start by going to the product page and selecting your print options. In this example, we’ll be creating business flyers but the steps should be similar for our other products.

Step 2: Go to Online Design Tool

Once you’re done configuring your product options, go to the Online Design Tool. The tool can be accessed by heading over to the Upload Artwork section and clicking Create Design Online.

Note: When there are no templates available for the product size specified, the Create Design Online button would not appear.

Step 3: Choose a Template

On the next page, you will be asked to choose a design from our template library. You will find filter options on the side panel. You can browse by style, industry, size, or orientation.

Select a template by clicking it. A pop-up window will appear. Here you can select a color scheme.

You have the option of changing the color scheme to something else.

Once satisfied, click Customize Online to begin editing the design and text.

Step 4: Edit the Design

You will now be able to edit the design and text of your chosen template.

Customize your design by adding images from your computer or by purchasing stock photos (prices start at $1). You can also add shapes and additional text, change the font and font size, bold or italicize text, change background colors, among other things.

To switch between the front and back, simply click on Front Side or Back Side located at the top of the tool. Once you’re done, click Proceed to Order. Doing so saves your progress and adds the design to your shopping cart.

From here, you’ll be asked to confirm your product options and then will be redirected to your shopping cart.

To start, select a product from our list of offerings. In this example, we’ll use business flyers. When a product page displays a Create Design Online button, that indicates that the Online Design Tool is available. Clicking that button will bring you to the template selection screen.

In the template selection screen, you will find options on the left-hand side of the page including orientation.

Please make sure you’ve selected the right orientation before creating your design. If you decide to change the orientation midway through your project, you will have to start over.

To give a brief overview of what EDDM, USPS defines it as an affordable advertising tool (Mail Marketing) or technique that lets your target a specific location and map your audience based on demographics such as age, income, or household size. This tool can also be used for marketing research as they provide data on targeting the best possible customers for the present and the future.

Nextdayflyers offer EDDM for Postcards and is available in custom sizes to fit any type of print product.

Spot UV Coating

You can add spot UV coating to selected areas of your design to highlight certain sections or information that needs to stand out. If being added to text, we’d suggest you make your font size bigger to really maximize the effect of the coating used.

One thing to remember though is that spot UV coating cannot overlap with areas that are being applied with foil. If you have artwork that would use both foil printing and spot UV coating, there must be 1/16” gap between them.

Submit Vector Files

One last thing. Any part of your artwork that would have spot UV coating should be in vector format. We do this because any shape in vector format can be scaled without losing quality. If you’re submitting a Photoshop file for your artwork, for example, you want to convert a text layer to a shape by right-clicking the text layer then clicking “Convert to Shape” from the list of actions that pop up.

Foil Printing

There are things you need to watch out for when designing artwork that will be foil stamped.

• If you’re adding foil to text, the font size should be at least 8 pt.
• If you’re adding foil to strokes or borders, they have to be at least 1.5 pt. thick.
• Foil should cover less than 50% of the surface area of the product.

Also, all images or text you’ll be adding foil to should be on a separate layer on your design file. If for example, you’re creating your design in Adobe Photoshop, then your document should have a layer indicating which areas would be in foil.

We have PDF instruction manuals for Photoshop, Illustrator, and Publisher in case you need additional instructions on how to use our templates to set up files for printing.

We have three types of foil printing to choose from:

Gold

Silver

Copper

Submit Vector Files

White Plastic

With white plastic, any part of your artwork that’s color white will stay that way. Your card will remain opaque.

Frosted Plastic

While not totally transparent like clear plastic cards, frosted plastic allows users to focus on the details. Choose transparent cards if the design would contain a lot of text. Any part of your design that’s color white will be frosted.

Clear Plastic

Clear plastic would turn part of your artwork transparent. We will make transparent any part of your design that’s color white.

If you’re considering using frosted or clear plastic, we suggest using a font size that’s not smaller than 8 pt. In the same way, strokes or lines should be more than 1.5 pt.

To protect clear plastic cards from any damage/scratching during transport, they will all have a thin protective layer that can be easily peeled off.

Take note that there are limitations when it comes to coating options. You can use whatever coating you like on the front side, but you’ll need to use uncoated, matte, or gloss coating on the address side. UV coating can not be used on the side where the mailing address will be. This makes it hard to write on the product by hand to inkjet an address onto the paper. We created a post that explains the differences between each coating option in this Help Center post.

The form helps USPS determine if your organization is authorized to send mail at special prices set by the USPS. The form will ask you for details like your national Nonprofit USPS Marketing Mail authorization number. Authorized organizations must display this number when asked to do so

We have dedicated pages for both standard, folded, die-cut, specialty, and large format product templates. The templates can also be accessed through a specific product page. Let’s use direct mail postcards as an example.

Once you’re on our Direct Mail Postcards page (or any of our product pages), simply scroll down the page until you see three tabs: Product Specs, Reviews, and Templates. By clicking on templates, you’ll get access to all the available templates for that product.

We offer templates in different sizes and formats. You can download templates in the following formats: Adobe Illustrator (AI), JPG, PDF, Adobe Photoshop (PSD), and Publisher (PUB). Clicking on any of the icons will start the download.

Once downloaded, unzip the file and there you’ll find your template. Each template indicates issues you should look out for. Basically, you want all the important elements of your design to be within the safe zone or the area that would be left untrimmed after we’re done with cutting.

Any unfamiliar term you might encounter while viewing the templates are defined within the template to make it easier for the users to understand. Some of these terms include:

Safe Zone — Where important details (images or text) should be placed

Trim — Where the actual cut would be made

Bleed — An area where designs are extended to, so there is some wiggle room during cutting

There, you’ll have four different options. Choose one that reflects the desired effect:

• Make Everything Transparent
• Make Only the Background Transparent
• Make White Areas on File Print Clear
• Follow File Transparency Settings

By making everything transparent, you’re asking to have the entire design be see-through including text. If your artwork uses small font, this is not the ideal choice as the text becomes hard to read.

By making only the background transparent, the artwork stays as is while the background becomes see-through. This is the most popular option.

By making white areas on file print clear, the background as well as design elements that are white will become transparent. Everything else will remain as is.

The “Follow File Transparency Settings” option enables you to indicate in your design file what sections are to be transparent. If you need help with this option, feel free to contact us.

We’re pleased to offer direct mail services. But what is direct mail exactly? It’s a service that lets us send out print materials from our facility on your behalf.

So how do you use this service?

How to Set Up Direct Mail

Direct mailing is readily available for three products: postcards, brochures, and rack cards.

Once you’ve selected any one of these three products, you can configure your order as you normally would. However, mailing services are only available for orders amounting to 500 pieces and above.

Once a proper quantity has been selected, a new option will appear: mailing services. Ticking the box will allow you to upload a mailing list further into the order process.

Continue working your way through the order process until you’re asked to upload a mailing list.

A mailing list is a Microsoft Excel file containing rows and columns with details that specifies a recipient’s company name, first name, last name, street address, alternate street address, city, state, and zip code (a mailing list template will be made available for you to download).

You can create mailing lists to target specific people through demographic and geographic data, income, age, or educational level so you’ll only reach the ones interested in what you have to offer.

You have the option to temporarily hold off on uploading your mailing list if you prefer to do so at a later time.

After your product has been printed, we’ll send them out to everyone on your list.

Variable data printing is the ability to use inkjet printing for information that varies from one piece to another. It is a form of digital printing in which text, images, and other elements may be changed from one printed piece to the next. It is commonly used for addressing direct mail. The printer pulls information using a database, usually names and addresses, and prints them individually without stopping the printing process.

RGB and CMYK Color Models

RGB stands for Red, Green and Blue, the primary colors of this model. This model is additive, meaning the right combination of these primary colors are added to produce a broad array of other colors. RGB is used to display images on computers, televisions, and other digital electronics. It is also the standard model for web design.

CMYK on the other hand, is a subtractive color model, which subtracts wavelengths of light to produce color. It stands for Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Key, the latter referring to the black plate used in printing. CMYK is the color mode of choice for offset printing, which uses four cylinders of cyan, magenta, yellow, and black to produce full color images.

An image that is rendered using RGB will look different compared to an image rendered with CMYK. If you submit a file that is made in RGB color mode, the printed output will look different than the one you see on your monitor. This is why we recommend setting up your file in CMYK mode before submitting it to us for printing.

For multi-page printing, you can get a sample of your artwork on the stock you ordered, but there will be no binding or folding. To order your sample, you can either email us at customercare@nextdayflyers.com or call us at 855-898-9870. You can also speak with our customer service representatives via live chat.

For all other products, we are unable to print samples on the actual paper stock. This is due to our gang run printing method, which involves putting several printing projects on one common paper sheet.

If you want to know more about the stocks we offer, you can order a free sample kit which includes samples of all of our paper and cardstocks. You can use our sample kit to choose the paper stock and coating that you would like to use for your artwork.

Aside from these, you can also order a free digital proof which will show you the cuts and folds on your artwork that will happen during the printing process.

Option 2 – Reordering Via Email

Alternatively, you can also reorder a previous job via email. During your previous order, you should have received a confirmation email.

If a computer image is made up of pixels, a printout is made out of dots with varying sizes delivered by a printer. A given inch in a printed image can hold a number of these dots. The higher the number of dots in an inch, the more detail the printed image gives.

We measure the image resolution with dots per inch (dpi). For the best output, we recommend a measurement of 300 dpi for your artwork.

When submitting artwork to be printed, we highly recommend that you send your design already in CMYK mode. Since computer monitors show colors that are based in the RGB color mode. When printed, your artwork will be converted to CMYK mode, so the colors of the final printout may not match your original. To avoid any problems with this, set your color mode to CMYK before submitting your file for printing. This will ensure the colors you intend come through when your design prints.

Targeted Direct Mail

Traditional direct mail targets a specific demographic. You can use it to send brochures, flyers, and postcards to a mailing list that consists of people that fit your target age, gender, income, and other variables.

On the other hand, EDDM targets a specific geographic area. No mailing list is necessary. Using mailing routes from the United States Postal Service (USPS), you can choose a specific area that you want to cover with your direct mail. You can, however, target EDDM based on the average demographic of each neighborhood. Your direct mail piece will be sent to every house in your chosen neighborhoods.

Printing Requirements

Traditional direct mail has no restrictions on size and quantities. You are free to customize your direct mailers however you want. There are also no limitations on how many pieces you would like to send.

EDDM has specific size requirements. Your mailers should be more than 11 1/2” long, more than 6 1/8″ wide, or more than 1/4″ thick. They should not exceed 15” in length, 12” in width, or 3/4″ in thickness.

EDDM postage costs less than traditional direct mail.

• File dimensions match the order. If your printout is an 8.5” x 11” brochure, the file that you will send to us should be the same.

• The image resolution of the file should be in 300 dots per inch (dpi) or higher.

• Your artwork should have a 1/8″ bleed and important content is within the safety zone which is 1/8″ inside the trim marks. This will ensure that there are no white borders along the paper edges and that the text and elements don’t accidentally get cut. Refer to our layout guide templates in our standard templates page.

• Your artwork should be in CMYK color mode. Computers use an RGB color mode that is different from the CMYK color mode used by printers. Changing your artwork to CMYK will ensure the accuracy of the colors in the finished print out.

• When sending a PDF file, or any of our accepted file formats, make sure that your fonts are embedded. This will make the text of your design crisp and accurate.

• Your artwork should have no crop, template marks, and other markings that you don’t want to print on your final image.

• The number of pages in your pdf should match the number of pages specified in your order

• Don’t forget to proofread. We do not check your file for grammar, spelling, or content accuracy. All of thesecan be changed in your choice of photo editing software.

To illustrate, here is our business card template from our Standard Templates page, where you can download it for free.

The bleed is an important element of the printing process. Printers cannot accurately print right to the edge of a sheet of paper, so we use a sheet which is larger than the document size. The printer prints beyond the edge of the document size (by 0.0625 inch or 1/16 of an inch), then cuts the paper down to the document size to ensure a clean cut. This bleed allows printers to safely preserve your design. If no bleed is used for the printed document, an undesirable thin white line may appear along the edges of the paper.

Most jobs we print require a 1/16” bleed over each edge. If your job requires die-cutting or is a booklet, a 1/8” bleed is required.

Keep in mind that no text should go beyond the recommended safety zone or it may be cut off while the printed piece is being cut to size.

Paper Stock

Also called book or text, this type of paper is made specifically for print. This type of stock is typically used for flyers, brochures, and posters. The thickness of this stock is measured in pounds (lb.), called the basis weight. In the United States, the basis weight is defined as the weight of 500 sheets of paper in its basic production size. The higher the basis weight, the thicker the paper.

Here are the available weights we offer for paper stock:

70 lb. – Our thinnest available paper stock, but still durable. This paper weight is best used for inside pages of catalogs and booklets.
80 lb. – Thicker than our 70 lb. paper, this stock works great for posters with the added durability.
100 lb. – This paper stock is the thickest available. It’s ideal for flyers and brochures, as the thickness helps it withstand increased handling.

Cardstock

Also called cover stock, cardstock is thicker than paper stock but is more flexible than a paperboard. The thickness makes it ideal for business cards, postcards, and greeting cards. Cardstock is measured in points (pt.) derived from the thickness of a single piece of paper. A paper measuring .014 inch thick would have a 14 pt. measurement. Again, the larger the number, the thicker the paper.

Here are the available thickness of our cardstock:

10 pt. – Our thinnest available cardstock which makes it ideal for folding. Well-suited for greeting cards.
14 pt. – Popularly used for business cards, presentation folders, and booklet covers.
16 pt. – Slightly thicker cardstock option best suited for invitations.
17 pt. – Our thickest and sturdiest cardstock ideal for direct mail postcards.

Types of Folding Options

Bifold (Half-Fold)

A bifold, also known as a half-fold, divides the sheet into two equal vertical panels by folding it in half.

• Standard size: An 11″ x 8.5″ sheet folds into a 5.5″ x 8.5″ piece.
• Best for: Menus, programs, greeting cards, invitations, and brochures.

Trifold (Letter Fold)

A trifold divides the sheet into three vertical panels, with one panel folding inward first, followed by the other.

• Standard size: An 11″ x 8.5″ sheet folds into a 3.67″ x 8.5″ brochure.
• Best for: Brochures, take-out menus, marketing materials.

Gate Fold

The gate fold features two side panels that fold inward to meet in the center, resembling a gate.

• Standard size: An 11″ x 8.5″ sheet folds to 5.5″ x 8.5″.
• Best for: Brochures, promotional materials with dramatic reveals.

Z-Fold

The Z-fold divides the sheet into three equal panels, alternating folds in a zigzag pattern.

• Standard size: An 11″ x 8.5″ sheet folds into a 3.67″ x 8.5″ brochure.
• Best for: Brochures, event programs, marketing pieces.

Accordion Fold

An accordion fold divides the sheet into four equal panels, alternating folds in a zigzag pattern.

• Standard size: A 14″ x 8.5″ sheet folds into a 3.5″ x 8.5″ piece.
• Best for: Brochures, product guides, marketing materials.

Double Parallel Fold

The sheet is first folded in half, then folded again in the same direction, creating four equal sections.

• Standard size: An 11″ x 8.5″ sheet folds into a 2.75″ x 8.5″ brochure.
• Best for: Larger brochures, detailed product sheets, instructional materials.

Parallel Map Fold

Similar to the double parallel fold, but the second fold is in the opposite direction, creating a map-like effect.

• Standard size: An 11″ x 8.5″ sheet folds into a 2.75″ x 8.5″ piece.
• Best for: Maps, brochures, informational pamphlets.

French Fold (Right Angle Fold)

The sheet is folded in half side to side, then folded again in half in the opposite direction, creating four equal sections.

• Standard size: An 11″ x 8.5″ sheet folds into a 4.25″ x 5.5″ piece.
• Best for: Brochures, event programs, compact marketing materials.

Gallery Wrap – 0.75″ Side Wrap

With our standard wrap, your canvas print will be wrapped around a .75″ thick stretcher frame and stapled to the frame on the underside of the canvas mount. Your design image will extend approximately 1″ around the frame edge.

Gallery Wrap – 1.5″ Side Wrap

If you want a thicker stretcher frame, choose gallery wrap. Your canvas print will be wrapped around a 1.5″ thick stretcher frame, twice the thickness of the standard wrap. It will then be stapled to the frame on the underside of the canvas mount. Your design image will extend approximately 2″ around the frame edge.

Our window clings use an adhesive-free static cling technology. Think of it as tiny suction cups that will cling to smooth surfaces, such as your storefront glass windows or display cases. This technology enables you to reposition your window cling easily and without glue residue.

There are two options for our window decal and window cling viewing directions.

Viewed Inside

If you wish to apply the cling to a wall or inside of a window where customers can view the image from inside the establishment, then choose the “Viewed Inside” option. For this option, the static cling technology would be applied to the back of your window decal.

Viewed Outside

Choose the “Viewed Outside” option if you intend to display your window cling to potential customers outside your store looking in. The static cling technology material would be applied in the front of your window decal, where your design is.

Standard H-Wire Stands

The standard H-wire stand is a 15″ galvanized metal stand for attaching your yard sign to your lawn. Once staked into the earth, it stands 7.5″ above the ground.

Extra-Tall H-Wire Stands

If you need a taller stand, our extra-tall H-wire stand is perfect for you. It is a 30″ galvanized metal stand, double the height of our standard H-wire stand. After staking it in your lawn, it stands 22″ above the ground, with a 14″ clearance from the base of your yard sign to the ground.

Matte Coating

This type of coating is a flat satin finish that results in minimal to no glare. The design will appear smoother compared to an uncoated finish. We recommend using this coating for your printed designs if you want a stylish and softer look on the colors. They are great for designs with a more subdued color palette. This coating does let you write on your print materials using ballpoint pens or Sharpies, but for best writability, choose uncoated. It is often used for a flat look on business cards and postcards.

Gloss Coating

Gloss coating adds shine to your printed material. It increases the saturation and depth of the colors, providing a higher contrast in your designs. This distinct characteristic of gloss coating makes it ideal for bright and vibrant designs. Gloss coating also makes your printed material durable and resistant to dust and moisture.

UV Coating

As the name implies, UV coating is a highly glossy coating that is applied by using ultraviolet (UV) light. If you want to make your colors “pop” by giving your design an eye-catching and vibrant look, then this coating is perfect for your print materials. Aside from that, UV coating provides an added layer of durability to our print products due to its added thickness and abrasion resistance. These characteristics make UV coating perfect for distributed marketing materials, such as brochures and flyers.

Uncoated

As the name implies, this option will not have any coating. This is the best option if you want to be able to write on your print materials.

White BOPP Label

White BOPP label is a gloss laminated white polypropylene self-adhesive label. This paper stock is perfect for products that are usually exposed to water, oil, moisture or refrigeration. The material has a subtle pearly white finish and is tear-proof, waterproof, and resistant to oil. Unfortunately, it’s not ideal for writing on.

• Temperature range that label can withstand: -65° to 200° F
• Minimum Application Temp: 30° F
• Face stock thickness: 2.6 mil.

Clear BOPP Label

For a transparent, “no label” look, you should use our Clear BOPP Label paper stock. It is made with gloss laminated clear polypropylene that is ideal for products exposed to water, oil, moisture or refrigeration. White ink may be applied underneath all areas for a solid opaque color. Similarly, this label is not ideal for writing on.

• Temperature range that label can withstand: -65° to 200° F
• Minimum Application Temp: 30° F
• Face stock thickness: 2.0 mil.

White Vinyl (Outdoor/Indoor)

White Vinyl is our thickest and most durable sticker material highly recommended for products that require outdoor exposure. It’s made of UV-resistant gloss laminated vinyl self-adhesive label. It’s not ideal for writing on though, so consider that when choosing this material.

• Temperature range that label can withstand: -65° to 200° F
• Minimum Application Temp: 30° F
• Face stock thickness: 3.4 mil.

White Vellum Textured Estate #8

This paper stock is an uncoated warm white adhesive paper with a tactile paper feel. It is the popular choice for wine bottle and product labels. If uncoated, it can be written on, suitable for handwritten mailing labels. An optional matte UV coating adds scratch and moisture resistance to the label.

• Temperature range that label can withstand: -65° to 140° F
• Minimum Application Temp: 0° F
• Face stock thickness: 60 lb.

White Premium Sticker Paper

This paper stock is our most popular paper label choice. It’s made of smooth, semi-gloss, pressure-sensitive adhesive paper. It’s suitable fo general indoor applications. Add our optional lamination for oil and water resistance.

• Temperature range that label can withstand: -65° to 200° F
• Minimum Application Temp: 30° F
• Face stock thickness: 60 lb.

Silver BOPP Label

If you want to make any color of your label design metallic, then this paper stock is the right choice. It is made with polypropylene self-adhesive label with a silver metallic look. It is suitable for products exposed to water, oil, moisture, or refrigeration. It comes with gloss or matte protective lamination.

• Temperature range that label can withstand: -65° to 200° F
• Minimum Application Temp: 30° F
• Face stock thickness – 2.0 mil.

White Laid Textured Estate #4

This paper stock is made with uncoated white adhesive paper with a subtle linear texture. It’s great for wine bottles and product labels. It’s also suitable for handwritten mailing labels if uncoated. Optional matte UV coating is also available for scratch and moisture resistance.

• Temperature range that label can withstand: -65° to 140° F
• Minimum Application Temp: 0° F
• Face stock thickness: 60 lb.

Cream Laid Textured Estate #9

Another popular choice for wine bottle and product labels. This paper stock is also made with uncoated adhesive paper with a subtle linear texture, this time cream-colored. Optional matte UV coating can make your label scratch and moisture-resistant. It can be written on if uncoated.

• Temperature range that label can withstand: -65° to 140° F
• Minimum Application Temp: 0° F
• Face stock thickness: 60 lb.

All of our temperature permanent adhesive sticks to almost any surface. For hassle-free application, apply onto clean, dry surface at room temperature.

• Images must be 300 dpi or greater or file will appear distorted.
• Convert your files to CMYK to improve color accuracy.
• Keep your file names below 20 characters with no spaces or special characters.

Also, double check the time that you are uploading files, especially if you’re getting the next day printing option. If you are uploading before 6 pm PST, then your files (if they are press ready) will print that night and will be ready to ship out the next business day.
